Grunge Effect

You ever see those neat little pictures with the teeny tiny X's in them and little sparkles and stuff like that? is that cool or what? here's how you can do it too!

Here's my picture:

x First off, copy the image into a new document and save it for later as a backup.

x Then Copy/paste the image again so you have two of the same images on two separate layers or go to Layer >> duplicate layer

see? i have two layers with the exact same image:

x Now go to Image >> Mode >> Grayscale to make it gray. don't flatten or merge the image just yet. if it asks to discard color information, click OK

x Then go to Image >> Mode >> Bitmap. It will ask you to flatten again and click OK

x A window will popup that asks you about your settings. Make sure your output matches your input. on the method drop down menu, choose halftone screen

x Then another window will appear to ask for settings:

Halftone settings:
Frequency: 53 lines/inch
Angle: 45 degrees
Shape: Square

now click OK

Now the picture looks really scary i know:

Copy the "scary" picture and paste it on the backup you made not too long ago. Then go to your layers window and where it says normal, choose soft light. Here's the finished product:

if it looks to extreme at first, lower the opacity.
